Moving to Excellence: Your 5-Step Guide to Migrating to AsusHost
Switching hosting providers often feels like moving to a new house—you’re excited about the new space, but worried about breaking things during the move.
At AsusHost, we’ve streamlined the migration process to ensure your site stays online and your data remains secure. Whether you are running a complex eZ Publish setup or a standard WordPress site, here is how to make the move in 2026.
Step 1: Full Backup of Your Current Site
Before touching anything, create a “safety net.”
-
The Files: Use your current File Manager or FTP to download your
public_htmlfolder. -
The Database: Go to phpMyAdmin, select your database, and click Export. Save this as an
.sqlfile. -
The Configs: Note down your database name, username, and password—you’ll need these to reconnect everything on the new server.
Step 2: Set Up Your AsusHost Environment
Log into your new AsusHost cPanel. To mirror the high-performance look of sites like Webpinn, ensure your environment is optimized:
-
Select PHP Version: We recommend PHP 8.2 or 8.3 for maximum speed and security.
-
Create Your Database: Use the “MySQL Database Wizard” to create a new database and user. Keep these credentials handy.
Step 3: Upload and Import
Now, we move your assets into their new home:
-
Upload Files: Use the cPanel File Manager to upload your site files into the
public_htmldirectory. -
Import Database: Open phpMyAdmin on AsusHost, select your new database, and click Import. Upload the
.sqlfile you saved in Step 1.
Step 4: Update Your Configuration
This is where the magic happens. You must tell your website it has moved.
-
Locate your configuration file (e.g.,
wp-config.phpfor WordPress or yourezpublish.ymlsettings). -
Update the Database Name, Username, and Password to match the new ones you created on AsusHost in Step 2.
Step 5: The DNS Switch (Zero Downtime)
Don’t change your nameservers until you’ve tested the site via a “Preview URL.” Once you are sure everything looks perfect:
-
Log into your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Kenic).
-
Update the Nameservers to:
-
ns1.asushost.co.ke -
ns2.asushost.co.ke
-
-
Wait for Propagation: It usually takes 1 to 4 hours for the world to see your site on its new, faster home.
